WARSAW
– July 23, 2008 – Radio Station WMYQ (“My Q101”), 101.1 on the FM dial,
announced today that it has begun broadcasting nighttime Chicago Cubs baseball
games. The broadcasts complement those already heard on My Q101’s sister
station, WBZQ AM 1300, Huntington. In addition to nighttime games, My Q101 will
carry post-season games, regardless of time of day.
“The Federal Communications Commission requires AM 1300 to greatly reduce its transmitter power after dark,” explained Chris Larko, general manager of both stations. “As a result, it has been difficult or impossible for most Cubs fans in northeastern Indiana to enjoy nighttime games on the radio. My Q101, however, has a strong signal 24 hours a day. So even though My Q101 is primarily an adult contemporary music station, we decided to make use of its superior nighttime signal to provide a better service to area Cubs fans.”
Larko said that any Cubs game that begins at 5 p.m. or later Indiana time will be broadcast both on AM 1300 and My Q101. In addition, both stations will carry all post-season games, regardless of start time. Regular season games that begin before 5 p.m. Indiana time will continue to air only an AM 1300. The change takes effect immediately. Upcoming games to be carried on both stations include tonight’s game versus Arizona at 9:40 p.m. EDT, Thursday’s game versus Florida at 8:05 p.m. EDT and the Monday, July 18 game versus Milwaukee at 8:05 p.m. EDT.
